Traditional Track

Applicant categories

Applicants to the BSN program are placed into one of three categories.

  • Category A: Core campus applicants

Core campus applicants are those who have completed at least 51 percent of their prenursing credit hours at IU Bloomington or IUPUI.

  • Category B: Intercampus transfers

Intercampus transfers are applicants who have completed at least 51 percent of their prenursing credit hours at an IU campus other than IU Bloomington or IUPUI.

  • Category C: Non-IU transfers

Non-IU transfers are applicants who have completed at least 51 percent of their prenursing credit hours at a school other than IU.

The School of Nursing gives priority to all qualified applicants in category A before considering qualified applicants in categories B and C. In recent years, all spots in the BSN program on the IU Bloomington and IUPUI campuses have been filled by category A applicants.

Application deadline

Applications are accepted from January 15 to March 15 each year. Applicants are notified of the admission decision by June 1. Admission is highly competitive, with approximately 80 students accepted into the traditional track on the Bloomington campus each year.
