Right now, you may be busy juggling your time, personal and work commitments, and finances to such a degree that earning your bachelor’s in nursing may seem out of reach. 

If that’s the case, then our RN to BSN option could be the option for you. The IU Online Bachelor of Science in Nursing is a degree completion program for registered nurses (RN) wanting to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). The program offers a flexible curriculum that prepares you to meet society's current and future health needs.

As a student in the program, you gain a comprehensive understanding of nursing, the humanities, and the biological and social sciences. You acquire the knowledge and skills needed to serve as a practitioner in acute and long-term care, community settings, home care, and other nontraditional settings.

Your IU Online BSN prepares you to be a:

  • Physician's office nurse
  • Neonatal or pediatric nurse
  • Geriatric nurse
  • ICU or emergency room nurse
  • Surgical nurse
  • Obstetric and gynecological nurse
  • Orthopedic nurse
  • Hospice nurse

In-State Tuition Per Credit Hour:    $350

Out-of-State Tuition Per Credit Hour:    $455

Transfer Credits: Transfer up to 64 credits from a regionally-accredited, two-year college and up to 90 credit hours from an accredited four-year college or university. 

Degree requirements

To graduate with the BSN, you must complete a total of 120 credit hours.

Requirements are broken down as follows:

  • Nursing credits prior to admission (33-36 credit hours)
  • General education courses (30 credit hours)
  • Nursing required courses (33 credit hours - nine required courses and a choice of two electives)
  • Other courses of your choosing (21-23 credit hours). You can take nursing electives to fulfill this requirement.

You can complete nursing courses in 12 months of full-time study or 18 to 24 months of part-time study, along with up to nine months of general education coursework.

To apply for our RN to BSN Degree Online Completion Option, you must first be admitted to Indiana University. 

Our RN to BSN Degree Online Completion Option has its own separate eligibility requirements, so we ask that you contact Debbie Hrisomalos, Director of Student Services & Advising, before applying to IU to determine your eligibility for our program. Debbie can also answer your questions about admission requirements, the application process, the course of study, the right program for you (full-time or part-time), financial aid, and more. 

If you apply to IU before determining your eligibility for our RN to BSN program, and you are not eligible, you may not be eligible for a refund of your IU application fee.
